![]() This entry was commissioned for ODOT. So it's a little trite -- I still like it. But what's with all the vegetables? Also, tee hee, is there a crack in it already? ![]() Sort of reminds me of Twister. I like the subversion of the figure-ground relationship. ![]() This one stood out to me. It reminded me of networks, and of course I was standing on the last missing link in Ohio's interstate system. But it also reminded me of rail lines, which is kind of sad. All the money that had been spent on this highway could've been put to use rebuilding our great rail infrastructure so we don't need so many highways. ![]() If you have to have a highway, however, why not have two really cool, empty ones that head into the city. I just liked the look of this one. ![]() The perfect Nationwide entry -- faceless multicolored people taking care of each other in bland surroundings. Also, it was the largest chalking and one of the furthest from the center. The company name wasn't lying down on the ground, like everybody else's, either. ![]() Sorceress? Vulnerable woman? I found it kind of intriguing. The entry was commissioned "In loving memory Laura DiFiglio." ![]() One of the only chalkings to incorporate materials other than chalk. I liked it a lot. ![]() An apparent meta-chalking. ![]() Somewhat typical of the pieces that tried to incorporate real Columbus landscapes in the art. I liked the misshapen Ohio Departments Building in the foreground. ![]() A carnival of chalk. ![]() Not all of the entries were terrestrial. This caught my eye. The photo doesn't do it justice, it was a really smooth blending of colors. ![]() Girl, you know yo' purpleheaded self is going to be down at Skully's. It says, "I love cocktails / Sex purity work / Good friends & boose." (Yes, booze is misspelled. :) I thought that was endearing.) ![]() The sign reads "Gallery 670." ![]() I'm not sure who Ruby Clay is. This was another surreal drawing where the work escapes the frame! ![]() The cardinals were a nice touch. I was really into the corns. This one really got to me for some reason. Maybe I'm an Ohio boy at heart after all. I couldn't help envisioning a cow hit by a truck, however. ![]() The South Park Terrence and Philip kids meet carnivorous plants on Jupiter. This was so weird it was awesome. ![]() Chillin'. ![]() So if you live in the Short North, you know what this is all about. :) For those of you who don't, the arches which were installed with such fanfare (see my journal entry) pretty much stopped working a month later. |
